A challenge had been made, to honorable combat between a group of knights loyal to house Targaryen and those belonging to house's Tully and Arren. The lords of the River Land and the Eyre who were in open rebellion against the crown. Although neither of the leaders of those respective houses were on the field today, or their generals, House Targaryen was represented today but its heir, Rhaegar Targaryen the so called Dragon Prince.
The meeting place for this epic confrontation was a field, outside of kings landing. A open spot, perfect for knightly combat. Which meant horses, lances, heavy armor and lots of fighting. The odds were only a few men would die today, it was more effective to take a knight hostage and ransom him than it was to kill him. Besides which it was considered dishonorable to slay a fallen foe men. Or at least it had been, these knightly rules were followed far less strictly now that war had broken out. Yet Rhaegar who had always followed his own strict code of honor, intended to follow the old ways and damn the consequences.
Today there were fewer than 10 knights on each side, of course Rhaegar could have brought far more of his own men. However on learning the enemy were so few in number he had selected an equal number of his own champions to do battle. Anything else would have been dishonorable under the knightly code of chivalry. Despite that, it would be a lie to say he was eager to do battle today. In fact he hated having to fight, but it was both necessary and expected of him as the heir to both his house and the iron throne. As such he would fight as best he was able, for of all the knights here today he alone could expect no mercy what so ever from his foes.
"Blood and Fire!" Rhaegar Targaryen, heir to the iron throne yelled, echoing the words of his house as he leveled his lance and lead the charge across the field. His dragon helm was down and his red armor shinning. It was exactly the kind of scene that made maidens weep and warrior shout in eagerness. Only Rhaegar felt a melancholy, he was going to do terrible deeds today.
